Saint Philip Bastion

"NAMED IN HONOR OF PHILIP II OF ORLEANS, regent of france"

This section of the ramparts borders a neighborhood known as California; an 18th century expansion of the city, developed by the ship-owners to have their down-town manor houses, for example hotel Asfeld.

Dating from 1714, Saint Philip Bastion has the shape of an irregular triangle - 2 embrasures open towards the west to protect the entrance to harbour and Dinard and 6 other embrasures towards the south to control the port and Bas Sablons strand in St Servan.
