1st part
Frank MUSCHALLE Stephan HOLSTEIN

Frank Muschalle (Berlin) has been touring for over 25 years and has given more than 2000 concerts across Europe, Paraguay, Bolivia, the United States and North Africa. Born in 1969, he discovered Boogie Woogie at the age of 19 after 11 years of classical piano lessons. From then on, he devoted himself exclusively to the study of this music. He has toured and recorded with musicians such as Red Holloway, Lousiana Red, Carry Smith, Axel Zwingenberger, Vince Weber, Carey Bell, Alex Schultz and many others. In April 2019, Frank received an invitation for concerts in the United States (Chicago, Houston and Cincinnati) and Canada (Ottawa). This tour was organised by the respective consular representations in cooperation with the local Goethe-Institut. In September of the same year, the Goethe-Institut again invited Frank to a five-day tour in Atlanta/USA. 13 Frank Muschalle CDs have now been released. Stephan Holstein (Augsburg) is one of Europe’s best-known saxophonists and clarinettists. He began his career at the age of 13, playing in jazz clubs in and around Munich. His stylistic spectrum ranges from the music of Django Reinhart to his own classical trio project and contemporary jazz projects. Stephan Holstein gives concerts and has recorded various CDs with Pete York, Sandy Patton, Herb Geller, Frank Roberscheuten, John Engels, Cees Slinger, Maran Breinschmid and many others. Bavarian Radio’s Joe Kienemann on Stephan Holstein: he’s at home everywhere, between theatre and film music, jazz and classical music, one of the most expressive musicians I know (Joe Kienemann, Bayer. Rundfunk). The meeting of Frank Muschalle and Stephan Holstein promises to be a musical highlight.

Gilles BLANDIN Trio

“These 3 musicians will take you to the land of Blues and Boogie, but also to the lands of the Mainstream (Erroll Garner), with the pleasure of playing that so characterises this music.” Gilles Blandin Fascinated by jazz and the piano since childhood, Gilles Blandin began his career in Paris, where he took invaluable advice from masters such as Claude Bolling and Aaron Bridgers (himself a pupil of Art Tatum and a close friend of Duke Ellington). In 1988, he moved to Brittany, his native region, where he became one of the ambassadors of Jazz Swing, and at the same time the representative of Blues and Boogie-Woogie as a French specialist in the genre. Whether playing solo or in a small group, his vitality, the solidity of his piano playing, the great inspiration of his personal compositions and the eclecticism of his repertoire (illustrated by five albums recorded under his name), are a guarantee of success at his concerts. Guillaume Nouaux One of the leading drummers on the international jazz scene, Guillaume Nouaux has performed at some of Europe’s top jazz venues and festivals, and regularly tours the world. Accompanying leading musicians from an early age, he has collaborated with a host of renowned artists including Chuck Berry, Donald Harrison, Steve Lacy, Harry Allen, Scott Hamilton and many others. Involved in a wide range of projects, Guillaume Nouaux has forged a personal style that is both unique and innovative, while maintaining a deep respect for the legacy of the historic masters of jazz drumming. Acclaimed by the international press, his recent albums as a leader have received critical acclaim throughout Europe, the United States, Russia, Japan and as far afield as Australia. Also a teacher and author of reference works on jazz drums, he is now unanimously recognised by his peers and the press as one of Europe’s leading specialists in the genre. Laurent Souques On stage since 1981, under his own name or as a sideman (Europe and even Australia), Laurent Souques performs as a double bassist, bassist, composer, arranger, sometimes as artistic director, producer or also percussionist…40 years of concerts, just about everywhere, with fabulous encounters, and above all unforgettable moments.

  • 18:00 Exterieur Jazz – Édouard LEYS Trio – Free

Edouard Leys’ playing is a promise of colour, of speed. A gesture that stretches, sweeps and colours in its wake. An aesthetic of melody, in which we can distinguish the colours of his many influences such as Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Brad Mehldau, not forgetting Gospel harmonies; fresh, open arrangements in which Michel Rosciglione (double bass) and Mourad Benhammou (drums), undisputed masters of the bounce, play a large part. From swing to groove, between revisited standards and compositions, the trio leaves plenty of room for improvisation, often in conversation with the audience, to make this concert an interactive and delightful moment.

  • 20:30 Gala Concert – “NEW ORLEANS NIGHT”

1st part
Malo MAZURIÉ Quartet – “Taking the plunge”

Malo Mazurié, an artist renowned for his mastery of the trumpet and his deep understanding of jazz, is releasing his first album as a leader. “Taking The Plunge” is a musical experiment that draws on classical jazz to create a more contemporary energy. With Noé Huchard on piano, Raphaël Dever on double bass and David Grebil on drums, Malo Mazurié’s quartet will create a spellbinding atmosphere, blending the sounds of the 30s with contemporary musical explorations. You’ll be surprised by some daring rearrangements of jazz classics, such as the transformation of Jelly Roll Morton’s ‘The Pearls’ into a Habanera, or the trio adaptation without drums of ‘Candlelights’, an original composition by Bix Beiderbecke. The album also includes eight original compositions paying tribute to jazz legends such as Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong and Irving Berlin. These tracks retain the essence of jazz while captivating a modern audience. “Taking The Plunge” offers a unique perspective on the history of jazz, subtly capturing the timeless essence of this musical genre. Come and share the music, creativity and passion of jazz with Malo Mazurié’s talented quartet.
