A panoramic garden with views over the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and Mont

And why not get up high and admire one of the most beautiful views of our Destination!

This is who we are, Le Balcon de la Baie

A wide-angle view that you’ll discover and admire with great interest!

Located in the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel in Roz-sur-Couesnon, a mountain-like massif is well worth the diversions, climb up near the Town Hall, where a garden offers a unique panorama of the different landscapes of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. From here, you can appreciate all the richness of the Bay, with its varied landscapes, colours and contrasts. We invite you to stop here for a while and take in the enchanting succession of landscapes.

The grid pattern:

The grid pattern of the farms colours the landscape before our eyes. Marks the different crops of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and the small beige spots, these are the salt meadow sheep. In this straight and so lively landscape shows that man has taken his place here.

The polders:

Let’s take a few minutes to understand this landscape and talk a little about the polders, because there was a time when polders were out of the question, the Quatre Salines shores were still the subject of salt exploitation according to the “Quart-bouillon” rules. Under the Ancien Régime, salt was the subject of a famous tax, the gabelle. There were six different salt tax regimes in the kingdom. The Bay of Biscay benefited from an exceptional regime known as “Quart-bouillon”. The use of salt from salt marshes was prohibited. Only fireproof salt produced locally in salt works could be used. Land reclamation companies then worked to reclaim land from the sea until the late 1960s.
The place names still reflect this history, it is the legacy of this use of the Bay.

Petit plus: Go back down to the polders, where you can visit the Maison des Polders and take part in one of the organised outings.

And in the distance … but not so far away!

The silhouette of Mont Saint-Michel emerging in a landscape where flatness reigns supreme and showing its imposing stature. Like a lighthouse at sea, it’s there to show us the way, to orientate us!

Discovering our emotions and sensations …

The softness of the colours envelops us and we’re drawn to the Mont Saint-Michel which is revealed here. We take a step back in our desires and take the time to admire these rich landscapes. And above all we’re filled with the joy that this discovery of the Mont-Saint-Michel bay wide open brings us! And to discover even more, we invite you to take a trip out into the bay with the Maison de la Baie, they offer fishing trips, discoveries and also trips to the Hermelles shoal.
