Over the years, Seahorse chairs have become the symbol of accessibility on the beaches of Saint Malo. They enable people in wheelchairs to get around on the sand and enjoy the pleasures of sea bathing.
At Saint-Malo
The town of Saint-Malo was the 1st town in France to offer Hippocampe wheelchairs on the beaches, becoming the 1st town to offer this equipment, allowing real independence on the beach and in the water
2 types of wheelchair are available:
- 6 floating amphibious wheelchairss (available only in July and August from the lifeguard stations).
- 13 beach wheelchairs, all-terrain (beach and road).
The wheelchairs are made available free of charge.
In summer, the chairs are available along the 8 kilometres of classified beaches, at the following 8 aid stations:
- Plage des Bas-Sablons (2 armchairs),
- Plage de Bon-Secours (2 armchairs + 1 armchair at the SNBSM sailing school),
- Plage de l’Eventail (2 armchairs),
- Plage du Sillon (2 armchairs),
- Plage de la Hoguette (2 chairs + 1 chair at the Surf School),
- Plage de Rochebonne (2 chairs),
- Plage du Pont (2 chairs),
- Plage du Val (2 chairs).
Rescue stations are open in July and August from 12.30pm to 7pm, every day of the week.
A 9th location offers a chair at Le Havre de Rothéneuf (SNBSM sailing school). Please note: this beach is not supervised.
Off-season, only 3 armchairs are available at the following sailing schools:

At Cancale
- 1 adult wheelchair is available at the Cancale nautical centre (Port Mer)
