A visit to Saint-Malo is like walking through a page of history that emerges in every corner of the fortified town: ramparts, monuments and shipowners’ residences, forts and bastions are all there to bear witness. From the Presqu’île de la Cité d’Alet in the east to Plage du Havre in the west, the panorama of the Bay of Saint-Malo also allows you to contemplate vestiges of times gone by… For many years, the town of Saint-Malo has been committed to improving the daily lives of people with disabilities: a welcoming town for all is a challenge, given the architectural constraints imposed on the historic town.

Accessible walks in Saint-Malo
Access to the ramparts of Saint-Malo
The complete tour of the ramparts is 1.754 km.
In order to avoid the staircases located in each of the town’s towers and gates, 3 ramps allow you to access the ramparts:
- Ramp Bastion St Philippe.
- Rampe des Moulins Colin
- Rampe Vauban
These 3 ramps allow you to access and walk around the ramparts in complete safety.
The old town is listed as a Historic Monument and is therefore required to be developed in accordance with Bâtiments de France: in particular, the town has different types of cobblestones (domed or flat). Some areas of the town are therefore more or less wheelchair-friendly.

In addition to the itineraries and tours on offer, there is an adapted route inside the old town, allowing visitors to explore the corsair town freely; however, the layout and historic character of the town (ramparts, cobblestones, narrow streets) does not always make it easy to explore the old town: it is therefore recommended that people with motor disabilities be accompanied.

The “Dol La Mystérieuse” tour route has been adapted to discover the picturesque alleyways of the medieval town and travel back in time!
This route is not recommended for wheelchair users as the paths on either side of the cathedral (Place Nominoë, Promenade Jules Revert…) are not suitable: numerous inclines and slopes.
