Le château de Combourg évoque une histoire de la Bretagne du Moyen Âge à nos jours. Le grand écrivain et homme politique François-René de Chateaubriand y passa son enfance et l’immortalisa dans ses Mémoires d’outre-tombe. Tour à tour forteresse protectrice, berceau du romantisme, hôpital militaire…
Le château aux multiples vies est aujourd’hui encore habité par les descendants de l’auteur. Il fut entièrement restauré au XIXème siècle dans le goût néogothique sous l’influence d’Eugène Viollet-le-Duc.
