This medieval castle was built to protect the frontier territory of the Marches of Brittany, but an intriguing connection also links the site with Lancelot and legendary foret Brocéliande, of Arthurian fame. COMBOURG is best known today as the childhood home of Francois-René de Chateaubriand, the "Father of Romanticism".
A guided tour of the castle described so vividly his Memoirs reveals the rich and tragic history of this illustrious family. restored in 1875 in the Gothic Revival style,...This medieval castle was built to protect the frontier territory of the Marches of Brittany, but an intriguing connection also links the site with Lancelot and legendary foret Brocéliande, of Arthurian fame.
