Le Domaine des Ormes
Day 1: Unusual accommodation for a guaranteed change of scenery!
What an arrival! The photos of your Domaine des Ormes accommodation made your mouth water, but the real thing, as your daughter says, is even better. Everyone has found their feet in your cottage’hut with « oh! » and « ah! ». A cabin in Canada with the comforts of an English cottage for a week is going to be great. The children are already off to try their hand at zip-lining. The suitcases will be waiting to be emptied: your swimming costume, a towel and you’re off to the pools.
From the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel to the marshes of Sougeal
Day 2: A life-size survey
Between the smoke signals of the American Indians and our smartphones, there was the Chappe télégraphe at the end of the 18th century. In Saint-Marcan, in the museum that traces the history of this first telecommunications network, you can see that the mechanism is still working. If one day there’s no more bucket, you’ll know where to go. You didn’t have to look far for a place to eat: the Ferme du Télégraphe is just around the corner, with its brasserie and organic creamery. The atmosphere is friendly, the food succulent and the place soothing. As is the Sougeal marshes, classified as a Remarkable Area of Brittany, where you spend part of the afternoon. The Maison du Marais is an ideal place to explore this special cosy environment. The children loved the interactive screen, the games and the films. Ready for your visit? The guide who accompanies you through the marsh points out a remarkable bird, a discreet frog or a rare plant, and explains how these 175 hectares of preserved nature work.
Saint-Malo, la Cité corsaire !
Day 3: Time travel à Intra-Muros
From the entrance to Saint-Malo, you follow the signs to park quickly at the Paul Féval park and ride. The free shuttle bus will take you to the foot of the ramparts in just a few minutes. The family is ready to board! In the car, during the journey, you looked for the difference between pirate and privateer, so as not to make any mistakes. No one wants to end up tied up to a privateer. L’intra-muros is an open-air museum that will delight you. A summer exhibition has been set up in the Saint-Sauveur chapel, a former religious building. Next door, the Mystère & Cie shop caught the eye of the children. You promised to take them there after their visit to the exhibition. Climbing over gates, exploring a labyrinth of alleyways, running your hand over cannons, squeezing through boilers, and ending the day in the world of Harry Potter…they couldn’t have recirculated better!!
From Dingé à Hédé-Bazouges…
Day 4: A 100% nature adventure day
Adventure course for one, mini-golf for the other, rock climbing for the rest of the family: this morning, you stay at Les Ormes to enjoy the estate’s activities and entertainment. You can relax on the terrace of your cottage’hut, in the peace and sunshine. Taking your time is also part of your holiday. Head for Ding and the Chèvrerie de la Poterie, where fromage blanc, tommes and yoghurts are made from the milk of the farm’s 60 goats. Did you tell the children that they were going to learn how to make butter and cream? A few kilometres away, the village of Hédé-Bazouges is in full swing, hosting Bonus, a joyful and innovative festival featuring theatre, circus and dance, both indoors and out. The meal you buy in the street is a la bonne franquette and is enjoyed to the accompaniment of music while you wait for your show to begin.
Cancale & les perles de la côte
Day 5: Gastronomy, crafts and history take centre stage!
The apron is ready, the knives are sharpened and the cooking workshop can begin. Fanny will teach you how to prepare seafood in a professional kitchen. These 2-hour Back to Basics workshops are friendly and caring. Rillettes of mackerel, snack scallops, shellfish with parsley butter and seaweed butter, you’ll be under the chef’s hat. And you know the good news? You’ll be able to enjoy all these dishes before you know it. After the effort, the comfort… Do you know what a malouinière is? No ? Then get in the car and discover the emblematic malouini of the Ville Bague. Wandering through the rich interior and wooded grounds of this beautiful 18th-century privateer’s and shipowner’s house in Saint-Malo is a journey back in time to the days of the Messieurs de Saint-Malo and privateering. In Saint-Malo-des-Ondes, a visit to the Atelier du Verre is a great idea. Watching a craftsman blow glass is a fascinating spectacle. We told you it was going to be a laugh-out-loud Breton affair, and we weren’t lying! The Place aux mômes festival in Cancale, a Sensation Bretagne resort, had the whole family in raptures. You’ll still be laughing over your plate at this restaurant in the Port de la Houle.
The Ille-et-Rance Canal, the green diamond
Day 6: After the cultural discovery, it’s time for leisure activities !
The children explore the impressive Eleven Locks site at Hédé- Bazouges in the company of the ânes. You won’t miss a moment of the show and your guide’s fascinating explanations of animal traction along the canals. After the walk and grooming of your 4-legged companions, push open the door of the Maison du Canal, where the history and the natural and cultural heritage of this waterway link between the West Indies and the English Channel are told. Lunch in a guinguette is a calm and peaceful moment. That’s just as well, because the afternoon promises to be an invigorating one: in the Cobac Parc leisure park, the children have really got you going on this slide, which didn’t look so high from the cow floor! You’re going to have to come down…Breathe, it’s going to be OK. Impatient, the others set off to test the new Tempête attraction. With a name like that, it must be quite a ride. They’ll tell you all about it, it’s préférable…
Dol-de-Bretagne, la Cité Rayonnante
Day 7: Go back à l’époque des bâtisseurs de cathédrales!
You’ve been driving around Dol-de-Bretagne since this morning and you’ve fallen under the spell of this jewel of the Petites Cité s de Caractère® label, with its half-timbered houses, its winding streets, its Grande Rue des Stuarts, the main thoroughfare with its many shops, its ramparts promenade and its majestic Saint Samson cathedral. You’ve already heard about the beautiful exhibition at the Espace Nomino. It’s 12:30 and you’ve laid out your picnic on a tablecloth at the summit of Mont-Dol. You can enjoy a 360-degree view of the bay of Mont Saint-Michel. It’s magical. Return to Dol to visit the CathédralOscope, a centre for the interpretation of cathedrals. You will have visited a stone-cutting workshop to understand the work of these talented craftsmen and, for an afternoon, slip into the clothes of these exceptional men. So it’s decided, when you get back from holiday, you start building a tower at the bottom of the garden. You’ve found everything you need to prepare a meal in your home, so you’re ready to go!
It’s time to go!
Day 8: Enjoy your last moments with the family
It’s nearly time to go. So the last morning of your holiday will be a light one: you choose between a trip to the Artisans’ Market in Dol de Bretagne or an exhibition at the Maison de la Lanterne in Combourg. If you don’t wait, you may be able to combine the two, so you won’t have any regrets? You’ve had a wonderful week, discovering fantastic places and wonderful people, visiting exhibitions and taking part in workshops. You managed to please young and old alike by mixing visits and activities, culture and relaxation. A real holiday! So, are you happy?
