Treasure n°2 Nuggets from the pointe du Meinga at the Chapelle du Verger

From Pointe du Meinga to Chapelle du Verger, a coastal walk between Saint-Coulomb and Cancale

Give yourself a nature break on the GR34®, between Pointe du Meinga and Chapelle du Verger. This coastal path reveals spectacular panoramas over the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, wild beaches and preserved nature. From the Meinga cliffs to the chapel nestling on the seafront, this route combines the beauty of the coastline, Breton heritage and serenity.

1.

La pointe du Meinga

The Pointe du Meinga, with its north-south orientation and given the prevailing westerly winds, presents a particularity in the physiognomy of its vegetation: high moorland on the eastern slope, sheltered from the winds, low grassland and prostrate vegetation on the western slope.

2.

L’île Besnard

The Dunes des Chevrets, a natural area acquired by the Conservatoire de l’espace littoral in 1986, are part of the tombolo de l’île Besnard. The dune has been reshaped, oyats planted and ganivelles laid. Today, the Chevrets dunes are once again a lovely place to stroll shielded from the wind and discover all the riches of this fragile environment.

3.

La Touesse and Roz-Ven

The plage de la Touesse is located as an extension of the Pointe des Petits nez. This fine sandy beach will win you over with its wild and welcoming setting. It is also lucky enough to be protected from the prevailing winds. Sidonie Gabrielle Colette, one of the greatest women of Letters of the early 20th century, came to spend the summers, from 1910 to 1924, in her villa “Roz-Ven” located on the dunes of the beach.

4.

Anse et fort Duguesclin

The cove and its fort, built by B. Duguesclin in 1026 on a rocky islet that was later owned by Léo Ferré: he bought the island in 1959 and stayed there for ten years, with his faithful guenon.

Take a mountain bike ride!

5.

La chapelle du Verger

This is a “chapel of the sea”, as evidenced by the many ex-seafaring votos. Notre-Dame du Vergeris deeply venerated by the people of Cancale. In the past, many a sailor’s wife would come here to pray. A little further down, take a stroll along the orchard beach.

6.

Les malouinières

Les Malouinières are very beautiful residences set in the countryside, holiday resorts of Saint-Malo shipowners. Most Malouinières were built between 1650 and 1730, within a 15-kilometre radius of Saint-Malo.

What is a malouinière?
