Treasure n°2 Nuggets from the Pointe du Grouin to Radegonde Bay

Just a few minutes from the centre of Cancale, the Pointe du Grouin is one of Brittany’s most beautiful panoramas. Overlooking Mont-Saint-Michel Bay, this exceptional natural site seduces visitors with its wild cliffs, coastal paths (GR34) and remarkable biodiversity. The whole coast, from Port Mer to Port Picain, is an ideal place for a walk in the fresh air, between sea, nature and heritage. An essential stop-off for any holiday to Cancale.

1.

La pointe du Grouin

The final stage of the walk along the GR®34 between Saint-Malo and Cancale, the Pointe du Grouin marks the end of a natural, rocky journey that can only be covered on foot. The most advanced rocky promontory in Ille et Vilaine, you can see Cap Fréhel to the left and the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel to the right. Looking up at the horizon, you can make out two marvels: Mont-Saint-Michel 25 kilometres away and the Chausey islands further offshore.

We invite you to take a hike!

2.

L’île des Landes

If there are magical places, then Landes Island is one of them. Inaccessible because it is surrounded by the sea and protected, the “locals” nickname it “the island of birds”.

3.

The Daules site

Located between the Verger beach and the Petit Port beach, theCancale Customs House – also known as the Corps de garde des Daules – is a landmark of Breton heritage. This historic building, built in 1740 to Vauban’s plans, was once used as a strategic surveillance post in the face of attempted English landings during the Franco-British wars. A true testament to Brittany’s military history, today this site offers an exceptional setting for lovers of hiking, history and panoramic views over the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel.

4.

Port Mer

Port Mer is a family beach from which you can embark on a dolphin-watching or on an old rigging but also enjoy the joys of water-sports activities, paddleboarding for example. Bordered by several restaurants and a large nautical centre, the beach enjoys a certain dynamism during the summer season.

5.

Port Picain and Pointe du Chatry

Port Picain is located in a place called Basse Cancale, south of Pointe de Chatry. It can be reached via the coastal path. This rocky beach is popular with anglers on foot. At the pointe du Chatry, the flora is very diverse: mimosas, very extensive vegetation that reaches down to the foot of the cliff (gorse, broom, black thorn, ivy…). It has the particularity of being sheltered from the prevailing winds, hence its exuberance.

6.

La Baie de Radegonde

Situated in Baie de Radegonde, at the start of Brittany’s granite coast and sheltered from the prevailing winds and bordered by cliffs, the plage de Porcon offers an ideal setting for long walks and fishing on foot. Swimming is possible, but the bay’s high tidal coefficients mean that the sea often retreats a long way, leaving a huge expanse of sand.
